Welcome to My 5K Addiction - a running page for those of us
in the middle of the pack who are perfectly happy running “just” 3.11 miles.
I started about 3 years ago with my personal running
addiction. It started with a small fundraiser 5K for a local animal shelter as
a Girl Scout’s Gold Award project. As a volunteer for the shelter, I had to be
there and thought, “what the heck, I can do this.” I ran/walked around the
course, part track and part ball field. I was hooked. I started doing an
organized 5K about once a month. I even did a 10K and, with nothing more than
my Nike running app, tackled a half marathon. That gave me the perpetual case
of runner’s knee and the realization that I don’t need that much “alone time”
in my own head. I enjoyed my distance runs, but I also got a bit bored. I
discovered that a 5K is just the right time/distance for me and no one can
guilt/cajole/shame me into thinking otherwise. Really have no desire to do a
marathon or an ultra, though I admire those that do.
So this page will be dedicated to those who run for the fun
of it, often wearing something silly, not caring if they are in the front of
the pack, just that they have a blast doing it. No judgment is passed on pace,
distance or style. We cheer each other on, we encourage determination and we
celebrate success!
I hope you’ll join me in My 5K Addiction.
